Thomas MM Hemy  (1852-1931), a local Sunderland based artist, was commissioned in 1895 by Sunderland AFC to paint a picture of the team in action.

This painting now resides in the Stadium o fLight.

Ian Horn (Poet & Text Artist) is a life long Sunderland FC supporter and like many visitors to The Stadium of Light is greeted by the painting during the football season.  The painting inspired him to write the poem ‘Hemy’ which has now been translated into an artist book as part of a joint collaboration with printmaker Theresa Easton.

The book ‘Hemy’ will be on display at Arts Centre Washington as part of The Sunderland Book Project.

Theresa Easton is a printmaker and Fine Art Lecturer at Newcastle University working with letterpress and zines.
