The Last Chapter is a bright and airy independent secondhand bookshop / gallery, based in south-west Sheffield and overlooking Endcliffe Park. It is here you’ll find The Sunderland Book Project discreetly installed within the bookshop and in the window gallery is ‘Cascade’, an installation of recycled books.
Accompanying ‘Cascade’ are a flock of ‘book birds’, composed of hand printed broadsides referencing the heritage of the mining communities of the North East, courtesy of The North East Mining Institute, just one of the many a hidden gems of the North East.
I was asked to install a piece of work in the gallery space by bookshop owner Kath Williams. The window space is suitably designed to provide intriguing and curious installations. Sheffield has a vibrant bookish culture with the Sheffield International Artist’s Book Prize (SIABP) and Exhibition organised and hosted by Bank Street Arts. SIABP is a biennial event attracting entries from across the book arts spectrum.
The exhibition will be on display until May 8th 2013.
