Building a Literary Bridge to Baghdad and Beyondis a response to the bombing of Iraq’s Cultural Center, al-Mutanabbi Street.

Help 260 artists from 24 countries exhibit their work as a response to the bombing of al-Mutanabbi Street, the historic literary nexus of Baghdad

On March 5, 2007, a car bomb exploded in Baghdad’s historic literary and intellectual community, named for the famed tenth century Arab poet Al-Mutanabbi. Thirty people were killed; more than a hundred were wounded.

The Tower,  by Theresa Easton, is just one of the 260 contributions to Building a Literary Bridge to Baghdad and Beyond .  The book has been designed using lithography & silk screen, made in an edition of 6.  It celebrates traditional bookbinding techniques and connects the universal and cultural condition of creating physical and ethereal icons.  The Tower refers to the Tower of Babel and the myths surrounding the ancient city.  Closer to home, North East landmarks fuse with ancient ziggurats, bridging the gap between past and present.
