Roker (20 Yards to The Beach)

Roker (20 Yards to The Beach) by Anna Welsh

Anna Welsh studied Illustration at Sunderland University, Roker (20 Yards to The Sea) was submitted towards her degree, gaining her a First.

I first came across Welsh’s book in the summer exhibition ‘Songs of The Sea’, at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland.

‘Focusing on the sea as a metaphor for storytelling, this exhibition explores, through artists’ work, archive ships’ logs and sound recordings, some remarkable stories of personal experiences of the sea.’

Welsh’s book is a visual and text based narrative, detailing her personal connection with the immediate location and community of Roker.  It will be exhibited for the first time at Ouseburn Open Studios at 36 Lime street 26th & 27th Nov, along with a selection of books by national and international artist’s contributing to the project.

The Sunderland Book Project will be on show at the Debating Chamber, Palace Green Durham ,  9-5pm 3rd Dec and 10-.4.30 Sun 4th Dec as part of the Durham Winter Festival.

If you want to contribute to The Sunderland Book Project, go to The Sunderland Book Project page for information on how you can contribute an artists book.
